So Cute!

I love love love these baby shower invitations by Minted! Now all I need is somebody to get pregnant so I can throw an almighty amazing baby shower - including sending out the sweetest custom made invitations. And trust me, there are like a million more super-nice designs to choose from, so I actually think my biggest problem would be choosing which one to go with.

Star Studded Baby Shower

Yummy Hollywood mama Tori Spelling, who is currently very pregnant with baby no. 3 (Tori is due in the next couple of weeks), celebrated her baby shower in Malibu last weekend. The reality star, 38, toasted the impending arrival of her third child with a beach-side extravaganza in the company of friends, including Hollywood mothers Denise Richards, Brooke Burke and Lisa Rinna. Star studded indeed.

Hubbie Dean McDermott, who is in culinary school, served the girls' up some sweet treats as they opened presents for the mama-to-be,

Tori, who does not know the sex of her third bundle, is already mama to Liam, 4, and Stella, 3. But that doesn't stop the actress making plans for a baby no. 4 already.

"If we are able to have another child after this one, that would be amazing," See! Four IS the new two!

Dreamy Baby Shower

Trust Martha Stewart and her clever team! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this fairytale themed baby shower! So cute! Now all I have to do is wait for someone to get pregnant so I can throw this utterly gorgeous party! (Or, if I find myself pregnant, drop some serious hints about the theme I'd like at my baby shower!)

Who Knew...

... mini-doughnuts could be so chic? Seriously, my favorite food blogger Aran Goyoaga at the water-in-your-mouth food blog Cannelle et Vanille can make even little deep-fried balls of dough look so utterly stylish and yum. And now that I will have my hands full with baby showers for the months to come- as practically everyone I know is pregnant- I need all the nibble and foodie treat inspiration I can get!

Designer Diapers? Yep, You Heard Me

Trust our stylish friends across the pond to come up with this one. And trust me to fall for it! Now, relax, I am not planning to exclusively have Nahla's nappies shipped in from the US, not even I am quite THAT nuts. But rather; imagine what a cute "New Baby" pressie these monogrammed nappies from BabyChix would make?! The possible Kodak moments! I know neither my sister or two other friends that are both due their babies in the new year have decided on names yet, but when they do, I know exactly what to get them!

Showered Out!

What a day! Tonje's baby shower was just perfect- and not even torrential rain and very autumn'y weather here in Oslo could make it anything less! The leading lady herself was glowing and nearly-there-now happy. The cupcakes- decorated by a 6-year old- were of the "more is more" school of decoration, i.i. laden with sprinkles and sugar teddy bears and baby bottle sweets. The mimosas were yummy. The presents were lovely and thoughtful and many. The table was decorated with (lots of) pink and (a little) blue. The guests were sweet and lovely and brought the cutest gifts. It was a day to remember, full of friends and family and excitement and joy. Tonje's bundle is now only 6,5 weeks away from coming out to us and we all cannot wait to meet her! (or him!)

Ready, Set, Baby Shower!

While Nahla sleeps soundly in her bed, Mummy runs around trying to make sure everything is ready for tomorrow's baby shower! Cupcakes are in the oven. Presents are wrapped. Baby Basket made- filled with essentials like diapers, talcum powder, nappy bags (scented!), Tommee Tippee bottles, nipple cream (makes me so grateful my breast feeding days are behind me!) and other little things you want to make sure you are stocked up on when baby arrives. Decorations nearly done. Supplies sorted. Pink champagne- for everyone not cooking buns in their ovens- is chilling in the fridge. In other words, nearly good to go! Now, there in pink frosting waiting to be made- and guess who cannot wait to lick the bowl?!

Macaroons, Maybe?

Princess and Mummy have now arrived back in Oslo, safe and sound and super-relaxed after our lovely little holiday with Bestemor and Bestefar. And while having to start semi-packing for our trip to Ireland on Sunday, I am very aware that I have little or no time to pull this baby shower together- as I am arriving back in Oslo a mere two days before it is due to take place. Breathe in, breathe out! Now, where did I put those lists...

And while I am still determined to make beautifully frosted cupcakes, I have now also started toying with the idea of some very stylish macaroons. I HEART macaroons- in Paris, La Durée was literally my first port of call! I found this recipe on my favorite new food blog, and think they would make the perfect addition to any party- baby showers included!

Cherry Blossom Macaroons:

Makes about 4 dozen small macarons

Note: Make three batches of this recipe, and color each with a different shade. Use bright pink, pale pink, and copper colors.

MACARON SHELLS

180 grams almond flour
240 grams powdered sugar
140 grams egg whites
3 grams egg white powder
2 grams of finely ground sea salt
80 grams granulated sugar
Few drops of food coloring

In a large bowl, sift together the almond flour, powdered sugar, and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, add the egg white and the egg white powder. Whip on medium speed until egg whites start to increase in volume.

When the egg whites are almost fully whipped and very fluffy, slowly start sprinkling in the sugar. After all the sugar is incorporated, whip the meringue on high speed until stiff peaks have formed. Then add the food coloring.

Add the dry ingredients to the meringue and, with a spatula, fold the meringue into the dry ingredients. This is called “macaroner.” It is better to fold slowly and test a couple of macarons because it is possible to over fold this mixture. You want a shiny mass. For this amount of ingredients, I would say that it will only take about 10 to 15 strokes. But again, it is better to check for consistency. You are looking for a mass that spreads a little but not too much, otherwise the macarons will be flat.

Pipe the mass onto half sheet pans lined with silpats. Let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to dry. You want the tops not to stick to your finger when you touch them. This will ensure a crack-free macaron.

Have your oven preheated at 350 degrees. Bake one sheet pan at a time positioning it in a middle rack. Turn oven to 300 degrees. Bake for about 8 minutes and rotate sheet pan to ensure even baking. It should take about 14 minutes, but that depends on the oven. You want to be able to pick up the macaroon without it falling apart, but you don’t want to over bake it either. It is better to bake it slowly so no browning occurs.

Remove them from the oven and slide the silpat onto a cold surface. Let them cool on the silpat.

BUTTERCREAM FILLING

Note: Flavor the buttercream for the pink macarons with cherry blossom extract and the copper ones with cocoa powder.

100 grams of egg whites
200 grams of granulated sugar
300 grams of room temperature unsalted butter
flavoring (cherry blossom extract and sifted cocoa powder)

In the bowl of an electric mixer, lightly whisk together egg whites and sugar. Place over a water bath until sugar is dissolved and the mixture is warm to the touch, shiny, and very fluffy. Bring bowl to the electric mixer and whip, adding a tablespoon of butter at a time, until stiff peaks form. Make sure the meringue has cooled to room temperature. Then add the flavoring and mix until incorporated.

Pipe a teaspoon of the buttercream on a macaron and top with another one that is similar size.

So pretty they will bring a tear to you eye!

Cupcakes Take The Cake

Ok, so at this stage you all know I am in the midst of organizing my little sister Tonje's baby shower- and no, I'm not obsessing, I just want it to be UTTERLY PERFECT AND COMPLETELY ADORABLE! And so to be able to impress with the most amazing cupcakes the guests have ever wrapped their little mouths around, I have turned to my old friend Martha- aka The Queen Of Baking! (and, in fairness, a lot of other domesticated stuff as well!)
And while I am still searching for the perfect recipe/flavor/decor for these Very Important Cupcakes, let us revel in the wonder that is Martha Stewart- and be very very grateful for the fact that her recipes are usually quite straight forward to follow for baking novices like me! So loving the idea of something simple, yet really baby shower cute, like the chocolate ones with just the pink ribbon!

Baby Shower Update

It is quite amazing just how much I get done now that I am home with my mum and dad, Nahla's grandparents, for a few days, and have someone who not only jumps up and takes her at every whimper, but who absolutely LOVES doing so! Like yesterday, when I got all of the thank-you cards for my cupcake's Christening presents out of the way- all enveloped up and ready to be sent. And now today I have- on top of a lunch-date with lovely Kine and her little Jacob- made all of the invites for Tonje's upcoming baby shower- as well as place cards, cupcake decorations, party favors and other little bits and pieces that needed to be done. I think T will be delighted with her party- and in the process I have discovered how much I absolutely LOVE planning, organizing and hosting parties! Event managing, anyone?!

Flower Power

Am so overly in love with these mega-cute place mats I ordered online from here last night! Not only will they be PERFECT for Tonje's upcoming baby shower, but when Nahla gets around to celebrating her birthday parties, sure what more can a little princess wish for than a table fit for a flower fairy!? So cool! And with the Dollar exchange rate; very purse friendly too!

"Preggatinis"? Sheer Genius!

I am so not stressing over what to serve in the drinks-department at this upcoming baby shower anymore. Preggatinis is where it's at, ladies. Pregga-what you say? And I can now tell you that they are the new "Bun-In-The-Oven" IT drink- far classier than a non-alcoholic wine and oh-so-much nicer than just a glass of San Pellegrino! And in new book "Preggatinis, Mixology for Mums-To-Be, you too can learn just how to mix up these yummy non-alcoholic treats! Sectioned out into witty categories like "Frolicking with Folic Acid" (part of the First Trimester: Germinate chapter) and "Belly Up to the Bar" (part of the Second Trimester: Proclamate chapter), the book is stuffed with pictures making you thirsty just by looking at them, and filled with great drink ideas. Miami Mommy Mojito, anyone??

One Step At A Time

This upcoming baby shower is SLOWLY but surely taking shape. It is a lucky break being home in my parents so that I have some free time to organize e-mails, invitations, menus, party favors, gifts etc., etc., etc. But this evening I was at least able to get the e-mails out, so now I am just waiting for replies with more postal details, so that I can send out the official invitations. In the mean-time, I think I have the theme planned- cupcakes; sugar and spice and all things nice- which make menu planning that tad easier. T was told she is more than likely having a girl, so hence the slightly girly theme. And just for the sake of it; I'll throw in some Tiffany blue in the color scheme just to cover myself in case princess turns out to be a little prince!
