Weekend Bliss

Monster-smoothies are a must in the mornings - drinking stuff is so much more fun when it is totally yucky green - as we  call it in our house.

New Lego set was a total success. Nahla is now officially in the playing-with-Lego age!

We took the easy way out for dinner today - and paired these little fish with broccoli and puréed sweet-potato.

My gorgeous bouquet of roses have lasted a full week on the coffee table - and that despited the fact that they cost only €3,50!

Two for Mummy, two for Nahla. Who needs more complicated cooking than this when it is just us girls for a week?!

Toddler Breakfast In 1-2-3

Spelt bread with mackerel-in-tomato-sauce mix. Choc-a-block with good-for-their-growing-brain essential fatty acids...

... some apple wedges as a little treat on the side...

... a little dash of organic plain yoghurt (because fruity ones tend to have a lot of sugar added), with some cocoa sugar, oat-flakes and homemade musli (+ a few sneaky drops of flaxseed oil)...

... equals one yummy easy-to-prepare and very healthy toddler breakfast! Nahla loves the pick'n'mix thing, where she can have one bite of this, and one scoop of this, so this is a win/win for both Mummy and Baby! LOVE!

Mummy Mornings...

... means that while you try and find your Zen while you knock back a cup of hot water with lemon and ginger (eat your heart out, Miranda Kerr!).....

... you might also have to spoon yoghurt into a zombie-like-cartoon-watching toddler, hang up lots of little clothes to dry, empty the dishwasher and clean up after a serious train crash. Did anyone say multi-tasking?

Toddler Favorites

I don't know about other toddlers, but my one definitively prefers her plate to be organized and her food to be separated. Like; in this case, the fishcakes can not touch the ketchup - until she herself dips it in. The vegetables cannot touch any of the other bits either. And if we are having pasta and sauce, the sauce and the pasta must also never meet until Nahla actually makes them herself. Enter this genius plate this clever mama bought in Paris last weekend. I love when things make me and Nahla equally happy - like here; I am happy because she will actually eat this whole meal - and she is happy because she, the little control-freak-in-the-making, can do so with her food still clean and pure from one another! Score!

Ready, Steady - Done.

I must admit the prospect of potty training always filled me with a little dread. I don't know why, really. Maybe it was the whole debacle of having to constantly check; "Do you need to go now? Now? NOW?", "Surely you need go now?", "Can you try to go now? For Mummy, please?" And so on and so forth. I mean; don't get me wrong; I had bought the stuff. Baby Björn potty? Check? A few other Ikea potties dotted around the house, just in case? Check. Toilet trainer seat? Check again. Book about little girls learning to do their business on the potty? Check, check and check.

And we did use it. Nahla sat on the potty every now and again, as I think I read somewhere that getting them used to it - regardless of whether or not they get the actual drift of it - was oh so important. I just never got around to do the actual potty-training bit. You know the bit where you do the whole "No more diapers, you are a big girl now" speech, the trial and error bit, the starting-off-with-a-few-hours-sans-diaper bit. That whole chapter.

Because as it turned out, Nahla, the little clever cookie, had other plans. One day a couple of weeks ago now she just arrived home from playschool and declared she was finished with diapers - just like that. Finito. And; I kid you not, the girl meant business. Because since, we have had NO accidents. None. Not even on our weekend away, where she managed for two flights, countless hours of sightseeing, hotel-room bathrooms, and not a drop where it wasn't meant to go.

Obviously, I still leave a diaper on her at night, but for the last week, whenever we take it off in the morning; bone dry.

I kinda feel a little like I imagine it would feel if you had studied for days for an exam, only to find out it had been cancelled. My little do-it-her-own-way girl once again came through. Like before I had her, and everyone bestowed upon me tales of the sleepless nights I would have to suffer. And then in the end I had none. And tales about how hard it would be weaning her onto solids - and again, seamless, easy, peasy.

My little love is now officially, at 2 and almost-5-months, a fully fledged panty-wearing, no-more-diapers toddler! And this mummy is feeling both pride at how good her little cookie is - and at the same time feeling like my baby is less of a baby every day that goes by. A bittersweet victory!

Little Friends...

... makes their Mummies hearts ache with pride and love! It is pretty magical to watch your our daughters' budding friendship when you yourself have been friends for as long as you can remember. Everything is secondary to family and friends!

We Are Getting Summer Ready...

... one little grooming routine at a time! Nahla, who is developing a little nail-varnish obsession, got stuck in when Mummy was done doing hers. And who cares if half her little foot turned out pale pink too, sure you got to start early if you want to be a true fashionista!

It Is Amazing...

... how much mothers can get done in the few minutes you manage to keep your toddler occupied with doing the dishes! Seriously, 12 minutes is an ocean of time!

Muddy Puddles...

... is just the most fun thing in the whole word! Especially when Mummy is on the sideline shouting "Get out of the water, Nahla!", but is incapable of stepping into puddle herself due to very un-sensible and expensive footwear!
