Toast And Tantrums
Every mom knows these mornings. You have these scenes in your head of how you want your perfect weekend morning to be like. Freshly squeezed orange juice. The weekend papers (or the iPad version of them). Croissants. Scrambled eggs. Maple syrup. Family time. And then there is the small matter of your toddler - who decided to hunger-strike (loudly) because mean mummy took away the Hungry Hippo game while breakfast was being eaten. So there you go; this is a not so rose-tinted scene from our house on a Saturday morning!

Girls' Day Out

I fell in love with this sweet mother-and-daughter fashion spread in the latest issue of Kamille Mor & Barn that I picked up in the basement in work the other day (yet another benefit of working for a big magazine house, there are like magazines everywhere you turn! My magazine shopping expenses has dropped dramatically since I started this job!).
Anyway, back to fashion spread. I think it just look like such a sweet day out, and cannot wait to share so many of these days with my very own little princess! Note to self: It will more than likely be another couple of years, as Nahla is currently going through a "I-hate-shops-and-must-torture-Mummy-with-proper-terrible-two's-meltdowns-whenever-she-goes-near-a-shop" phase. Which I am hoping will pass. Soon. But after that, oh all the mama and baby shopping we will indulge in for sure!

The Princess Obsession...

... has begun. Yesterday, as nahla and I were having a little brose through the trend departement at H&M (LOVING their new collection, btw, bought the most amazing wool shorts that will look amazing worn with opaque tights and killer shoe boots!), Nahla spotted a dress adorned with feathers and promptly shouted: "Look, mummy; a princess dress!" Which off course cuased the entire store to burst out laughing at the very image of this tiny little girl who is so well able to talk!
Speaking of, my little not-yet-22-month-old is now well able to count to 20 in two languages and can recognize several letters (Nahla's letter and Daddy's letter, which, in fairness, is the same letter. Mummy's letter and a couple more, which blows my mind!) and now speaks in full 6-7 word sentences! I am in awe at this, as I think I always though Nahla might be a little slower in the speech departement as she has to learn two languages from the start. But no, she just started speaking both - in what seemed like no-time! Nuts!
Anyway, back to the whole princess thing. Is it terrible that I now fear she is going to want to dress like, God forbid, Suri Cruise! All those aweful dresses and tacky toddler heels?! No way. It will in that case be a battle of wills between Mummy and nahla - and in teh fashion department; Mummy will make sure she wins!

"I'm Ignoring You, Mummy!"

Even though we are still 3 months shy of Nahla's second birthday, we are already well into what I can only imagine must be the dreaded Terrible Two's. Nahla can transition from angel to terror in 4 seconds, and is getting very very determined. Especially when it comes to managing things herself and deciding whether or not she wants to do stuff Mummy wants her to do. Like sit on her potty. Or get dressed. Or eat stuff. Or whatever. Being a toddler-mummy sure comes with its own set of challenges, but luckily the good far outweigh the hectic and even though Nahla sometimes gets very cross with Mummy, we are still the very best of friends 99 % of the time!
