Pregnancy Yoga

I never really got around to joining a pregnancy yoga class when I was expecting Nahla. Things were so hectic and busy, we were traveling all the time, and I moved country and house and it was generally just a busy time. But then again, it was my first pregnancy, and I had the luxury of being in total control of my own time. When I was tired, I slept. When I was hungry, I ate. And so on and so forth.

This time around, however, my time is not entirely my own. As all mothers know. I sleep only at night - and even then I am always short of a few hours. Although that is probably more to do with my crazy work schedule than Nahla. Naps are a no-no. Like; where would I fit one on?! I consume a lot of my meals standing up - or on the go. Hello smoothies. I am mothering and working and keeping the house together and trying to squeeze in some couple time too, and before you know it; 29 weeks of this pregnancy has gone by without me having a lot of time to even ponder upon it.

And so last week I signed up for pregnancy yoga classes - just to carve out that little bit of time when I can focus and me - and the new baby in the making. I LOVE yoga. Think it is the most amazing relaxing and grounding thing ever. And even more so when pregnant. So for 1 1/2 hour every week, I am taking time to tune out and tune in. And I am loving every minute of it. Namaste!

Pregnancy Powerwalk

Today's pat on the back comes after I took my now very large 29-week old bump on a bit of a power walk around the neighborhood. As I am still working away, I find now more so than ever I need to get up from my desk and stretch my legs at regular intervals. And apart from my back, which is starting to ache a little when I move around, it felt GREAT. And also, I am hoping it will make getting my exercise routine back on track once baby is here a walk in the park. Here's hoping anyway!

Kourtney's Post Baby Body...

... is pretty smashing. Is it torture or inspiration though, I wonder, to look at pictures like these when you still have 4 month of growing to do, before you can even contemplate starting to loose the weight again?! Time will tell. But one thing is for sure: Yoga and Tracy Anderson: One Helluwa' combo, by looking at it!

Yeah, It's Monday!

I am a firm believer in starting as you intend to go on. And so here is how I kick-started my Monday:

New Nike running shoes. Love the colour and how INCREDIBLY light they are!

Spinach, spirulina and orange juice smoothie on the way to drop N off at play-school. Go green!

My New Running Shoes...

... will be heavily used once we are properly back in Ireland and I can reclaim some me-time in the evenings once more. I cannot even begin to explain how much I have missed my daily runs since Nahla and I have been mostly by ourselves here in Oslo, and I haven't had the opportunity to go running every evening. Running is my absolute favorite exercise - OK, that and yoga - and clears you rmind like nothing else. Now all I need is some new running shorts. Or pants. And maybe a jacket. And some new music for my iPod. And I'm set!

SJP's Super Toned Arms Work-Out...

How does Sarah Jessica Parker keep her arms so slim and toned? According to the busy actress the answer is quite simple: By carrying her 2-year-old daughters Loretta and Tabitha! hah, talk about fabulous multitasking! taking care of babies AND getting some exercise done? LIKE!

"My daughters insist on being carried at the exact same time," the actress revealed to U.K. talk show This Morning ealier this week. "They're like 25 pounds now each."

Twenty-five pretty freakin' adorable pounds, for sure though!

So many clever ways to squeeze in work out when you are a mum!

Bikram Yoga

Today, as Bestefar (Grandad) is flying in and is VERY eager to collect his little dote from playschool, this mama will take advantage of the free babysitting and head straight from work to catch a class of bikram yoga. Finding serenity in a heated up room when the rain is pelting down outside this very wet Monday? Yes, please!

Wear With Pride

I must admit I never got too worked up over the whole stretch mark thing. My mum have none, her two pregnancies didn't leave her with any, so I figured I was pretty safe, as the argument is that they are pretty hereditary. That didn't stop me from rubbing myself with a variety of (organic!) creams every day throughout my 9-month baby-making journey. You know, attack is the best from of defense and so on. And I got away easy. A couple of tiny little lines near my hipbone. I can live with that. Easily. Because they are marks that I am a mum. I created a person. I grew a baby inside me.

Women, I think, get even more beautiful when they become mothers. All of a sudden they have this glow - and tired eyes can be hidden behind great sunglasses! But most importantly, they are all of a sudden more genuine. More caring. More kind. More beautiful - marks and all.

It baffles me how so many women hate their post-pregnant bodies. Yeah, I get that those first weeks can be a shocker. I mean; everything is kinda.. loose. Like, naively, I thought, once the baby was out, my belly would be flat again and I could leave the hospital in my J. Brands. Eh, not so much.

It takes a while. And even with time and yoga and cardio it will never be QUITE the same - although near enough so that you can live with it is perfectly fine. That doesn't mean I don't think everyone should try and be the best version of themselves that they can be. Because you should always be that. Be fit and healthy and happy and you will be one glowing gorgeous mama. And wear the marks of your pregnancy with pride - you sure have earned it!

This beautiful poem I came across on Pinterest explained it better than I could - so warm, sweet and true!

"A mark for every breath you took, every blink, every sleepy yawn. One for every time you sucked your thumb, waved hello, closed your eyes, and slept in the most perfect darkness. One for every time you had the hiccups. One for every dream you dreamed within me. It isn't very pretty anymore. But that's ok. It was your home. It held you until my arms could. And for that, I will always find something beautiful in it." - Cassie Fox.

Early Morning Yoga...

... is a must. Even if we only manage a few poses. And when I say we, it is because much as it is Mummy doing the yoga, little Nahla LOVES to join in and now does a mean downward dog - at the tender age of just 14 months! Talk about bendy baby!
Anyway, we really cannot wait for summer when we can do this out in our garden instead of on the living room floor. And much as I heart the new Om Yoga & Lifestyle magazine and all the fab yoga clothes shopping tips, these days I mostly use my yoga APP for coming up with new series of poses - technology; I am in awe! And now; ready for a new week!

Run, Mummy; Run

If there is one thing I long for more than anything when it comes to the end of winter drawing near, it is to be able to go running again. Outside, just me and my iPod (I treated myself to the new Nano just to keep myself motivated come running season!) Much as I love yoga, and classes and spinning and piloxing and all the other new ideas Norwegian gyms seem to steal from our more innovative friends across the pond, nothing beats running.

The simplest reason I suppose is because it works. It's (apart from the gear) free. It is pure meditation when you find yourself pounding the pavement with nothing keeping you company but your own breath. When living in Dublin I found myself going for a proper run every afternoon after work. It helped that I lived 5 minutes from the office so there was no horrendous commute to dampen my spirit. I used to come home, get changed into my running clothes and hit the road. It was the best stress release of all. It cleared my mind after a hectic day. It made me discover the city all over again. It kept me fit- for free. And it became a much loved habit.

And now; although having done it sporadically over the year that has gone by, I am now more so than ever ready to find my running form once again. And what better way to start then by investing in some brand new running clothes?! Nike is my favorite, but I am loving the idea of browsing for some new let's-get-fit stuff!

In 2011...

... all these will officially make me an even yummier mummy! (I know, I am a SUCKER for advertising! Stick some glamazon woman in an ad, and I will buy WHATEVER product she is selling!) Anyhow, I KNOW the supplements will do my body good. I KNOW the Organic Pharmacy stuff will make my skin glow. I just KNOW the Larabars will curb my candy cravings (Not that they are too severe, I don't actually like chocolate and prefer these delicious raw food bars!). I KNOW the Acai berries I intend to stuff my smoothies full of will make my body zing with health. All in all, this combined with my intentions to rediscover my love of running and be more serious about my yoga practice, 2011 is set to be the year of fitness and fabulousness!
