Baby Friendly Fashion

It's official: Autumn is here! My calendar (I still use an old-fashioned filofax-y kind as I NEED to physically write things down to remember them!) says September. The evenings are most definitively getting shorter and darker. And even though the last few days have been filled with glorious sunshine, the mornings have most definitively been of the sharp crisp September kind. Do I mind it? Not in the slightest! Now; I know this could have something to do with the fact that babes and I (plus the entire Norwegian side of my family) is heading off to Palma de Mallorca in just 15 short days, and my summer will be somewhat extended. But also; I LOVE autumn. I would nearly go as far as saying it is my absolute favorite season.

I mean; those days when the air feels like toothpaste it is so fresh. The colour of the trees. The leaves on the ground. Cup after cup of chai latte. Stocking up on fresh produce at the farmer's market. Knitwear. Wellies. Rain on my window. I LOVE it all. Autumn always feel like a fresh start. Like a mini New Years. Even now; years after I finished both school and college, there is something so fresh and new about this very season.

I LOVE how you once again get to snuggle up in coats, hats and scarves. And how the shops are filled with gorgeous knitwear, lovely boots and sharply tailored coats. This year, being on maternity leave and therefor knee-deep in blustery walks pushing a pram, mornings where I barely have time to run through the shower while L screams his head off on the bathroom floor and in constant danger of being pee-ed, puked and snot-ed on, my style choices will have to reflect this hectic and no-time-for-fashion phase of my life.

And so I plan on a simple approach. Jeans will - as always - be my staple. A few pairs of skinny jeans in different shades of blue will form the backbone of my maternity leave wardrobe. As will my ever growing collection of American Vintage long-sleeved tee's, so perfect for layering over each other or under a chunkier knit. I already live in my white Converse and will consider investing in a navy pair as well. My Hunter wellies will no doubt be needed as the weather worsens throughout October and November. Comfort will be key. The ability to throw things on in the morning, knowing that most items will work together, is of essence - all mothers will nod in reckognition with this, no doubt.

Having previously visited the amazing city of Palma, I know that the shopping rocks, and so I will be on the look-out for items like fine knits and a black trench-coat. I am seriously thinking about investing in a Burberry one, knowing it would live in my wardrobe forever after. A few shirts is a must too, maybe one with a print and also a plain denim one to pair with other items in my wardrobe.

The bottom line is that fashion may be fashion and you may love it with all your might - and if you are anything like me, you do. But at the end of the day taking care of a baby leaves little time for tottering about in heels, or wearing stuff that cannot be thrown in the washing machine should you need to. And you will. Clothes will need to meet in the middle of practical and stylish. And it can be done, believe me. And this is how I plan to bridge the two.

Happy shopping!

Milestone Baby Cards...

... is a godsend if you are anything like me and suffer from constant guilt over the baby-books that you never quite get around to updating. Like; I see the books - especially Nahla's as it has been sitting on the shelf longer - and mentally list all the things I MUST remember to write down in it. Like: What were her first words, really. When did she stop wearing diapers. How much did she weigh at her 1-year check-up. What did she look like when she started play-school. And so on and so guilty.

And then I came across these adorable clever little cards on Instagram: Milestone Cards. And to all you other guilt-tripped mamas out there: Here is the quick - and mega-cute - solution to your - and my - problem. Because even if you are far too sleep deprived/stressed out/time-starved to manage to sit down and write down all the milestones your little cherub passes in the babybook, sure we can all manage to stick a card next to the baby, wip out our iPhones and capture the Kodak moment right then and there. Easy Peasy. Now my only heartache is that I did not order there pre Baby Luca's arrival, because sure he has already whizzed past the "Today I am 1 week/1 month/First Smile milestones - and no card was there to capture the moment.

But that is all about to change. Watch out baby-book; there is another moment-catcher on the block!

2 Months Today...

... and already such an AWSOME little person! Around here we struggle to remember what we did with all our time before Luca made his arrival. Well; this mama does anyway. Writing 7-8 articles a week suddenly seems like nothing but a vague memory... Happy 2-month birthday, little munchkin!

Life With 2...

... is hectic, amazing, fun, exhausting, hilarious and a little crazy. And I am loving every minute.  Everything is suffering; blog, housework, skincare regime; the lot. All my energy has gone towards these two - a whirlwind 8 weeks since little Luca joined the family, making sure Nahla gets the attention she needs. Making sure the baby is fed, burped and changed. Making sure I have time for showers and the odd meal. Making sure clothes get washed, petrol gets put on the car and bills get paid. And now I think we have nailed it. So far, so good. Hello world; I am ready to re-join!

My first true great love. My little game-changer. I have never known how crazy hard you can love another human until she came along.

These two... I swear; I well up just looking at this picture. Hormones; HELLO!

Chaos on the coffee-table. I'm not worried. I'm sure it will be tidy again when they are off to college. Maybe.

My brand new little guy. I had never thought I had wanted a little boy - being so utterly in love with my girl. And now? I have to stop myself waking him when he sleeps, because I CANNOT GET ENOUGH.

Family. What life is all about. Hands down.

I am back. Hello blog! Here's mama!

On This Rainy Day...

... Nahla is off from school, and hence we are busy girls with about a million errands to run. But sure that doesn't matter in the slightest, because today is FRIDAY! Which we all know is one thing: The absolute best day of the week!

Scenes From Our House...

This mama is trying - as always - to find a balance between work and life, and is wowing to get better at blog updates!

So delighted with the new Aden + Anais swaddle I found 50% off in Avoca the other day. And sure red stars are suitable whether baby turns out to be a prince or a princess!

N is currently into doing shows with her new microphone. And we have to sit down and listen. Sometimes for really long stretches at a time. Other times we have to stand up and dance. Is stage school in the cards?? Part of me is hoping that this is just a phase...

Happy Tuesday Night

Much as my days are a hectic blur of work, school-runs, ballet-classes, play-dates and family-time, it is important to squeeze in a little me-time too - as any mama will know. So tonight, as BF is glued to the TV and the Real Madrid game, I have filled the bath, slapped on my most favorite Sisley face mask, lit some candles and dug out a book I have been reading for months, yet never can seem to finish. Here's to blissful, delightful mommy-time!

It's Almost Unbelievable...

...how much energy a 3 year old can have. And how much she has to say. From the moment she climbs out of bed in the morning until she conks out at approximately 8 o'clock a night, Nahla talks. And sings. And jumps. And laughs. And really; I love it. I love how much energy she has. How she fills every room with colour and fun and magic. How she makes me be childish again. How she is always happy. But much as I love all these aspects of motherhood, I also cherish it when she goes to bed. Those blissful 4-5 hours of adult time. Of silence. Non-lego covered surfaces. Sometimes I am amazed at how one can love these different times of the day with equal intensity, but I guess that's motherhood for you!

I LOVE Mondays

Maybe that makes me a little crazy, but seriously; Mondays are the best! I love sitting down with a latte and my calendar and planning the week ahead. Like how many deadlines have I got this week. When are they due. Who am I meeting for lunch (I always try and schedule in a nice girly lunch with one of my girlfriends to brighten up a hectic week - and what is better than to get to try out a new on-trend lunch spot at the same time. This week: Thursday. Aoife. Damson Diner. Cannot wait). What am I cooking for dinner. What do I have to do/pay/organize/book/reschedule. When can I fit in some work-outs. And so on and so forth.

Mondays to me are like having a little mini-January 1st every week. A chance to start something new. To start over. So what if you are a bit crap last week and never made it to yoga-class? Today is a brand new start. It is just about grabbing it.

So stop feeling miserable on Mondays just because everyone else are. Mondays are what you make them. And you should always make the FABULOUS.

TGIF

PJ-bottoms, thick socks, candles, tidy house, fresh flowers, BF making dinner, TV, fresh magazines stacked on my table, toddler out of bath and ready for bed. Life is good!

This Is SO Me...

... or it most certainly was this morning, anyway, when I had instructed myself to get up before 7 AM, as I have about a million deadlines looming before our Greek getaway next week. But then BF and I had a little movie-date last night to see Ted (so freakin' funny!), then I got stuck into an old episode of KUWTK on E! Then I just "had to" reply to some e-mails. And so on and so forth. And before I knew it, it was after 2 AM. You might think this sounds late - but I am terribly for never getting to bed - and so last night really was just like any other night. Apart from the fact that I this morning felt as if I would donate my entire wardrobe to charity if somebody would just let me sleep for 15 minutes longer! Note to self: Must. Learn. To. Go. To. Bed.

Although, I have discovered, there is a name for my problem: FOMO. Fear Of Missing Out. (Thank you Scott Disick!). See; you learn something from those Kardashians after all!

Laid Back Fashion Choices...

... are perfect for Sundays. Especially when your Saturday consisted of road-trip with BF, hotel-stay, dinner on the town, LOTS of cocktails, 30th birthday party, more drinks in the residence bar and up early-ish to get home to collect toddler from very-kind-to-babysit grandparents! My (3rd pair and counting!) Zara jeans are so comfy I could wear them every day, and as for the jumper; new FAVORITE wardrobe piece picked up in Oslo, with the words Good Girl on the front, and GONE BAD on the back. Am slightly obsessed.

Today's Smoothie...

... also inhaled somewhere between kitchen, car and playschool: Soy yoghurt, fresh orange juice, pineapple and melon - with a little coconut-oil and a handful of hempseed thrown in for good measure. YUM!

Days Of Our Lives

Mummy has successfully tricked Nahla into thinking raw-food bars are sweets. Mental high-five to me!

We have been to the Zoo again - and concluded that Nahla is not really all that into animals yet. Except for giraffes... For some strange reason.

Nahla got her very fist love-letter! From very cute Connor in her playschool. Daddy had minor melt-down as he now envisions his life a few years from now, having to fend off smitten teenage boys...

Nahla had a "bitch-stole-my-look" moment with the zebra in Dublin Zoo...

Pink dip-dye hair was a roaring success with our very pink-loving 2-year old...

Little Emine Sofie, who is on a week's holiday with us in Ireland, also got to enjoy the zoo - and the sleeping tigers...

And two little cousins are loving each others company and wake up every morning calling each other. Heart-melting stuff.

2,5 Yesterday...

... which makes me wonder; how has it been 2,5 years already??!! And in other ways; has she only been part of our lives for as little as 2,5 years??? How is that possible? I breathe her, I sleep her, I would die for her, and yet she is the person in my life that I have known for the shortest amount of time. That is motherhood for you, so all-consuming and empowering and crazy crazy good.

Ready For The Day

Tuesdays are Nahla's day off from playschool, and so we always have a combination of errands to run and fun to be had on the agenda! See; hence the practical flat footwear!

A Day In The Life

The drink: Popeye juice - as our favorite green is called forever more. Mummy and Nahla are equally obsessed.

The eyecandy: My office inspiration board. It makes me smile.

The outfit: Casual mama!

My office away from home: The local coffee shop.

The dinner: Asian salmon with garlic, lime and coriander wild rice. YUM.

The outing: A quick dash through the local Tesco. Oh, the glamour!

Monday Morning...

... hello new week; let's bring it on!
