Bloom and Blossoms Anti Stretch Mark oil. I managed to get through pregnancy no. 1 without stretchmarks. And I fully intend to do so this time around too. And so I have thrown myself into a big-scale research into all natural body oil and cremes to help me with this. And so far; this one is a firm fave!

Ombre
I have taken the plunge. And I LOVE it. So much so that I am now seriously doubting I will ever go back to blond-blond. Ombre is where it is at. And as for fall fashion; I am now so excited to embrace all that amazing style with my new darker hair!

DIY Manicure...
The beauty of working from home is that you can decide to do your nails mid how-to-shrink-you-pores feature. And so I did. And today; if I may say so myself, I am more than a little impressed with myself! Glitter french mani? Check. I KNEW that Deborah Lippmann nailpolish would pay for itself one day.

Head Over Heels With Orange Lips
My latest beauty obsession: Orange red lipstick. And not just any lipstick, oh no. It has got to be YSL Pur Couture in the colour Le Orange. Seriously, it is the most perfect shade of orange-y red, suits every skin-tone and makes your teeth look ultra white! Is it any wonder it is Kourtney's favorite too??

Hairy Fantasies
I am having a little hair-crises at the moment. Ok, major. Like; I cannot seem to decide whether to stay blonde-blonde, or whether I should have a darker - and sultrier - summer, and add a lot of lowlights into my tresses to take it into blonette-territory. I am IN LOVE with this last pictures - that is like my dream hair colour, hands down. Not blonde, not brunette, but something in the middle.
But then again; I am also crushing on the big hair, blonde bombshell look.
And my whole crisis is totally being magnified by the fact that I have spent the last few days writing about hair styles and hair fashion, and am being exposed to amazing hair pictures left, right and centre.
And as I am planning a major session at the hair dressers this very week; I better decide quickly!

Summer Hair
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this colour! It is totally "Blonette", AKA half and half between blonde and brunette, and so so natural and gorgeous looking! I think I need to get some more dark into my own blonde tresses! And as for the braids, how perfect for the beach!

We Are Getting Summer Ready...

Today's Fashion Loves
My new-ish pink River Island jeans, which has climbed up to my favorite's list lately, as the weather is hotting up and coloured jeans just look so, well, fresh and cool and very 2012!
Seriously, I need to accomplish two things: Learn how to make friendship bracelets - which I am sure I was perfectly capable of in like 4th grade - and find THIS orange nail polish! So amazing against tanned hands - and much more This Year than just regular red nails! LOVE!

Snapshots From Our Afternoon

Nahla and Mummy have spent the afternoon beauty-fying ourselves pre a trip to the theatre to watch a show containing a lot of teddybears, teddy hospitals and more fun stuff. And as we earlier today hit the Essie counter at the local chemist, sure all we needed to do was decide on colours for our finger nails. And just to inform: Mummy went for Aruba Blue and Nahla opted for Cute As A Button. We are total Essie girls here in our house!

No Nasties
At first sight this might look like the contents of a beauty goodie shopping bag. But look again. This is actually my rubbish bin - and stuff I have on total purpose thrown into it. Because having read even more about the dangers of parabens and petro-chemicals and sulphates and all other crap they put into beauty-products - and the possible horrible cocktail effect they can have on your health and well-being when you use them, I have decided that all this stuff has to go. So gone. And this was just the tip of the iceberg. I have thrown out lots and lots and lots of not only make-up and body-products, but also shampoos and perfumes and even cleaning products. Yuck. We want to be beautiful AND healthy. So away with all the junk - you owe it to yourself too!

My Latest Addiction
It always amazes me when people buy organic, eat healthy and generally take good care of what goes into their body - and then completely forgets to check what is in the stuff they are putting ONTO their bodies. I mean; your skin is by far your biggest organ. It is living and breathing and it absorbs everything you put on it - a lot of it even going right INTO YOUR BLOODSTREAM.
Did you ever read the ingredient list of your bodylotion? Your anti-wrinkle eye cream? Your shaving foam? Unless you have been living under a rock the last couple of years you have heard of parabens - and how really they should be avoided. A simple Wikipedia search yields this result: (Note: This is info EVERYONE can get their hands on if they bother to look!):
"Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Parabens are effective preservatives in many types of formulas. These compounds, and their salts, are used primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties. They can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, personal lubricants, topical/parenteral pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution, makeup, and toothpaste. They are also used as food additives.
Their efficacy as preservatives, in combination with their low cost, the long history of their use, and the inefficacy of natural alternatives like grapefruit seed extract (GSE), probably explains why parabens are so commonplace.
They are becoming increasingly controversial, however, because they have been found in extremely low concentrations in breast cancer tumors (an average of 20 nanograms/g of tissue). Parabens have also displayed the ability to slightly mimic estrogen (a hormone known to play a role in the development of breast cancer). No effective direct links between parabens and cancer have been established, however."
If you are anything like me and care about your body and your health, this information should SHOCK YOU TO THE CORE! Linked to breast cancer!?! Still available in most cosmetics sold in this country?!? And a whole lot of other countries?!? WTF!
Seriously - this is horrific stuff! And trust me when I say that it is a DROP IN THE OCEAN! There are more baddies than parabens. Phthalates, sulfates, petrochemicals, the list goes on. Bad, bad stuff which should NEVER come within an inch of your precious beautiful body! This is stuff nobody tells you about. Stuff that the beauty industry DOES NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW. Which is horrible and horrific, but it means one thing: YOU HAVE TO take responsibility for your own health and your own body.
Google is your best friend. Seriously. Find out which brands are good, which are bad. Educate yourself. Ask around, talk to people at your local pharmacy/beautician/chemist. Throw out all the shit in your bathroom locker that you have been using before you read this. And don't be fooled; expensive designer brands are often just as bad when it comes to nasty ingredients as their cheaper competitors. Read every label. Trust no-one, you and only you will know what is best for your body.
Luckily, and this really is great news, there are some brands out there that different and that have products that are lovely and purer and much much better for you. Here are some, I know there are more, so be a clever cookie and always be on the lookout. Beauty and health should go hand in hand, it is as simple as that.

Dipping In...
... to my treasure chest of press freebies is always tons of fun. Seriously, when I worked for both a women's glossy as well as a bridal magazine in Dublin, I was so lucky (seriously, crazy lucky!) as to receive tons of press gifts on a regular basis. I mean; I never had to buy make-up or shampoo or body lotions as long as I worked there - it was pretty awesome in fact. So generous were the gifts that I still, in fact, have a whole box of stuff left. My latest trial-run are some products by skin care guru Ole Henrikesen. So far, so and so impressed. Maybe I need to give poor Ole a fighting chance and continue using the stuff foe another few days before I can expect miracles, but sure patience was never my virtue...
