Thai Tot

My little munchkin is getting more adventurous with food by the day - and I'm loving it. Thursday night we went out to YaYa's, one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Oslo, and Nahla surprised both BF and myself by scoffing most of what we let her have a taste of. Which rocked my world! I love love love the fact that she is not one of these kids who are afraid to try stuff. Thai? Done. Now; I'm going to have to get her weaned on sushi!

5 A Day

Even though certain days it is a struggle, we try to make sure we include five yummy portions of fruit and vegetable every single day. At least. Five really is the minimum you should aim for, to manage even more is fantastic - you are your body's best friend!
I have as long as I can remember cared about food and health and the impact of one on the other. I have read a lot on the topic and written about it too. But since having Nahla it has brought everything even more in to focus for me. Suddenly I am not only in charge of the food I put into my own body, but also the food I chose to put into this perfect brand new little person. Me - and BF off course - are actually responsible for Nahla's body and her health and her eating habits until she is old enough to make these so very important decisions for herself.
And, as all parents I am sure, I make it a big priority to make sure we eat healthy, good and wholesome food. As much organic as possible. As fresh and new and seasonal as I can find. I don't really eat meat, and so as I don't cook it often , neither does really Nahla. I am not trying to make her vegetarian, she can make that choice herself when she is older. But I do make sure when she does it meat, is is as pure and lean and organic and local as possible. From free range, healthy, happy animals who were allowed to live normal lives and were not brutally farmed in horrible conditions. We never eat hot dogs. Yuck. Sausages; no way. Minced or ground "beef"? Never. Because I want her to have the best. It is that simple.
I want to fill her body with the best food possible. I want her to learn how to love good, healthy food, to understand the good she is doing to her body by being healthy. It is such an important job, this huge responsibility facing all parents, our children really are what we feed them, and sure we want them to be great. To be fresh and healthy and amazing.
And it isn't all that hard and time consuming and expensive as we are sometimes lead to believe. It is just - very simply - about making the choice that you and your baby's health and happiness comes before everything else. Fresh, healthy and yummy versus unhealthy, chemical and unnatural? Pretty easy choice to make!

I Have A Secret Obsession...

Larabars. Oh My God. So so yum. And 100 % natural. So sugar. No dairy. No additives. No gluten. No nasties. Just raw fruit and nuts and juices pressed together into a little bar of perfect yumminess. Larabars are my sweet treat - without the guilt! The come in lots of flavors - I LOVE banana bread, pecan pie and key lime pie - and if you knew me well, you'd know that there is ALWAYS one lurking in my handbag.
And the best bit? Nahla LOVES them too and thinks that these are sweets! This really warms my heart as I am above average interested in food and health and I so want my princess to love healthy food that nourishes and protects and not fall into the junk-and-sugar trap. If you want some serious and hilariously well written info about how to eat good stuff, avoid junk and generally learn more about why we should put good foods into our bodies, you should read the Skinny Bitch books by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. I first read the Skinny Bitch Bun in the Oven book when I was pregnant and LOVED it. Far from being the diet book it sounds like, it really teaches you what is really lurking in the foods we eat on a daily basis and what this is doing to ourselves, our babies and the world around us. Powerful important stuff!

Enough of the lecturing (although, seriously, get on Amazon and order a copy, you will NOT regret it!)
Larabars (which you can order from here) are so yummy I would eat them whether they were healthy or not. The fact that they are is just a big fat yummy healthy bonus!

My Strawberry Shortcake...

... cannot get enough of her favorite treat. And this Mummy LOVES the fact that her baby is scoffing into yummy, healthy, laden-with-vitamin-C rich strawberries, so we have pretty much bought out M&S as it is!

Nahla's "Café"...

... has now taken up permanent residence in the corner of our kitchen. Nahla LOVES how she can now just climb up herself and draw, or feed teddy or eat raisins or whatever. And Mummy loves how cute it all looks. And Daddy was happy with the very reasonable price - as we picked up the little mini furniture in IKEA. See; it IS possible to keep everyone happy!

Tapas Tot

"Yum, Mummy; these patatas bravas are just soo nice! Uh-oh; all gone!" Needless to say Nahla is not in any way scared of trying new stuff in the food department, and today as we relaxed with friends and tapas at The Market Bar, she ended up eating nearly Mummy's whole portion of potatoes!

Breakfast Time...
... is healthy for both Mummy and Nahla. And while we tuck into our spelt porridge with peach and banana (Nahla) and quinoa crackerbread topped with hummus, cheese, cucumber and yummy avocado (Mummy), we play and play with Nahla's brand new wooden toys, shaped like little cakes and ice cream cones, lollipops and cupcakes. My little sweet with her sweets!
